Sylacauga, AL – An employment center in Sylacauga that served workers idled by the Avondale Mills shutdown will close on Tuesday. Officials said the Avondale Re-Employment Center will close, but a center in neary Talladega remains open. Gwen Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Sylacauga center, said about three thousand individuals signed in to take advantage of the re-employment services offered. About 50 individuals started college in August, and another 50 enrolled for the January semester, she said. About 25 more attended truck driving classes to obtain commercial drivers licenses.
