Bangladesh Feels the Tug of Islamist Extremism

Bangladesh, one of the most populous Muslim nations in the world, is a relatively tolerant society. But some are concerned about the activities of Islamist religious parties and Islamist extremists.

Last year, militants set off about 400 bombs in all but one of Bangladesh's districts. The International Crisis Group has recently warned of the "creeping Islamization" of Bangladesh. Some blame the country's two major parties because they are constantly feuding rather than taking a united stand on the issue.
