Montgomery, AL – Outgoing Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley won't attend Tuesday's opening of the organizational session of the state Senate. Baxley's chief of staff, John Hamm, says her neurologist and her other care providers encouraged her to skip the opening and stay in Birmingham, where she is recovering from a stroke. The 68-year-old lieutenant governor suffered a stroke in November. The organizational session would have been her last official function as lieutenant governor before Jim Folsom Junior takes office Monday. Hamm says Baxley's therapy is progressing wonderfully, but her care givers didn't want to risk any setbacks by her returning to the Legislature.
