Judge Splits Lawsuits Over Senate Elections

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – A Montgomery judge has split two lawsuits challenging the election of five Democratic state senators. Circuit Judge Charles Price ruled Monday that the cases should be handled separately because the issues are different. Price sent the suit challenging the election of state Senator Larry Means of Attalla to Circuit Judge Gene Reese to handle. Price will still handle the suit challenging the election of Senators Lowell Barron of Fyffe, Zeb Little of Cullman, Roger Bedford of Russellville and Hank Sanders of Selma. Both cases involve whether the senators filed the proper campaign finance reports. Means' case involves the general election. The other case involves the primary election. The secretary of state did not issue a certificate of election for Means, but she did for the other four senators.
