Columbiana, AL – Hundreds of workers at a Shelby County plant are losing their jobs. Elastic Corporation of America announced Thursday it will lay off all 250 employees at its Columbiana facility. The company, which makes elastic tape and medical wrap, is moving operations to Honduras. Elastic was one of Columbiana's biggest employers and generated approximately 60-thousand dollars in revenue annually. Executives said affected workers will be given financial packages and continuing education to make the transition to new jobs. The plant will completely shutdown by the end of 2007.
