Montgomery, AL – The governor's seven-member seat belt task force meets today (Wednesdday) at the Alabama State House. Last week, the group held a series of hearings in Huntsville where they listened to several experts weigh in on the issue of seatbelts on school buses. Some liked the idea while others were opposed.
One of the group's members Doctor Mary Jane Caylor, a member of the state school board, said she is not convinced Alabama needs seat belts on school buses.
But Doctor Ann Roy Moore, the Huntsville School Superintendent, said its likely the task force will hold more discussions before releasing their recommendation to the governor.
The debate was brought to the forefront by last November's crash that killed four teenagers when a school bus plunged 30 feet off Interstate 565 in Huntsville.
