Washington, DC – More than 800 (m) million dollars in road improvements are being proposed for rural west Alabama.
The Delta Regional Authority wants to widen and improve more than 38-hundred miles of roads throughout the Mississippi Delta. The total project would cost more than 18 (b) billion dollars over the next two decades.
In Alabama, the work could include 383 miles of roads through the Black Belt region. The work includes a series of improvements along U-S 43, U-S 80 and U-S 84. Most of the roads would be taken from two to four lanes.
The projects were endorsed by Alabama's highway director. Congress must still approve funding for the work.
