Alabama Docks to Get Nearly $10M

By Associated Press

Washington, DC – The federal Department of Transportation will release nearly $10 (M) million dollars for projects at the Alabama State Docks.

Alabama Senator Richard Shelby, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee who helped gain the funding, says $6.6 (M) million goes to the Alabama State Port Authority for the Choctaw Point Terminal and $3.3 (M) million goes for the Docks Intermodal Facility.

In a statement Tuesday, Shelby said the Alabama port has a substantial impact on the state's economy and investing in it will pay dividends for years to come. The port plans a new container and rail intermodal terminal on Choctaw Point.
