Montgomery, AL – A poll released Thursday today shows Senator Hillary Clinton and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani gaining support in Alabama with eleven months to go before the state's presidential primary.
The survey by the polling arm of the Alabama Education Association found that among likely Democratic voters, Clinton was favored by 35 percent to 19 percent for Illinois Senator Barack Obama, nine percent for former North Carolina Senator John Edwards, and eight percent for former Vice President Al Gore.
Among likely Republican voters, Giuliani polled 28 percent, Arizona Senator John McCain 23 percent, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich 18 percent.
Poll director Gerald Johnson did a similar survey in mid-January. Giuliani and Clinton had each improved their standing by eight percentage points from the earlier poll. McCai and Obama stayed the about the same.
Alabama's 2008 presidential primary is slated for February fifth.
