Birmingham, AL – The Internal Revenue Service announced special tax relief for Alabama taxpayers in the disasters areas that were struck by severe storms and tornadoes on March first.
The tax agency extended the deadline for filing federal tax returns to April 30th for residents who live in Coffee, Dale, Henry, Montgomery and Wilcox counties.
I-R-S spokesman Dan Boone in Birmingham says if the Federal Emergency Management Agency declares more counties disaster areas, they will be added to the list.
He also said taxpayers can claim the tornado or storm damage as a loss on their 2006 return, even though the storm hit in 2007.
