Smokestacks Bite the Dust

By Associated Press

Tuscaloosa, AL – Onlookers described it as "spectacular." One of Tuscaloosa's familiar landmarks - a pair of 200-foot tall smokestacks - were imploded yesterday (Monday) and are now a pile of red bricks.

The smokestacks, a fixture since the 1920's, were located behind Bryce Hospital. David Bennett, the hospital's administrator, said the demolition is part of a project to remove old structures from hospital grounds.
