Alabama's Delegates Split on Iraq Vote

By Associated Press

Washington, DC – Alabama's seven Congressmen split along party lines in Wednesday's House vote approving a 124 (b) billion dollar Iraq spending bill that would order President Bush to start pulling troops out of Iraq by October first.

The state's two Democratic lawmakers - Bud Cramer and Artur Davis sided with the majority while five Republicans - Terry Everett, Robert Aderholt, Spencer Bachus, Mike Rogers and Jo Bonner - voted against the measure.

The final tally was 218 to 208. Passage came just hours after the top U-S military commander in Iraq told lawmakers that there are signs of progress there, though violence continues to grip the country.

The Senate is expected to take up the measure and approve it this week. But President Bush has promised to veto the legislation as soon as it reaches his desk.
