Perdido, AL – Hundreds of acres of a rare, wet pine savanna habitat in Alabama's north Baldwin county are now open to the public. The Nature Conservancy and the Alabama Forever Wild program have been working for several years to save Splinter Hill Bog and its extraordinary diversity of plant and animal species - including the rare insect-eating pitcher plant. The Nature Conservancy's Jeff Danter provides a quick tour of Splinter Hill Bog.

OUTRO: The Nature Conservancy's state director - Jeff Danter - says the preserve near the Bladwin County community of Perdido is a shining example of Alabama's claim as one of the most bio-diverse states in the nation. This report was produced by Eric Lowe.
