Sen. Sessions Will Visit Iraq

By Associated Press

Washington, DC – Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions says he's heading to Iraq this weekend to get a first hand look at the war effort.

He said one of the things on his mind are the recent comments by Nevada Democratic Senator Harry Reid who said the war is lost.

Sessions says Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, went over the line and said the remarks were outside the mainstream of his own party.

The Mobile Republican believes the statement was disheartening to U-S troops on the battlefield. He also chastised Reid for saying he would not believe the commander of U-S forces if he told him the situation in Iraq is improving.

Sessions said he plans to meet with military and Iraqi leaders while the in Persian Gulf region. His exact itinerary was not made public.
