Mobile, AL – One of five Kappa Alpha Psi members at the University of South Alabama was sentenced to probation and required to pay restitution to a pledge injured in a fraternity hazing incident.
21-year-old Derrick Greaves, charged with hazing, said in court Thursday that prosecutors could likely prove the accusations against him surrounding the fall 2005 incident in which the pledge was beaten with a cane.
A Mobile County judge placed Greaves on six months of unsupervised probation and ordered that he pay restitution to the victim. The amount could be one-thousand dollars for medical care.
The pledge, Paul Jones of Pensacola, Florida, then 22, was sent to the hospital because of the injuries he received from the beating.
A university spokesman said Kappa Alpha Psi remains suspended from the U-S-A campus.
