Auburn Athletes Help with Tornado Cleanup

By Associated Press

Enterprise, AL – Fifty-two Auburn University student-athletes demolished two tornado-wrecked houses in Enterprise Saturday.

The homes were destroyed by the March First twister that struck Enterprise High School, killing eight students.

A-U's director of community relations and spirit Latisha Durroh organized the trip with Sydney Hoffman, a community relations representative from the governor's office.

The volunteers swinging sledgehammers included the entire A-U women's basketball coaching staff and representatives from the athletic department.

In a statement, Auburn head coach Nell Fortner says team members were at the S-E-C Tournament when the tornado hit and were very aware of what was going on. She says they knew right away that they wanted to do something to help Enterprise.
