Soldier's Funeral Scheduled for Saturday

Montgomery, AL – An Alabama paratrooper killed in Iraq will be remembered at a memorial service this weekend in his hometown of Montgomery.

Specialist Matthew T. Bolar of Montgomery died May 3rd when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was 24.

Bolar, was a 2002 graduate of Canterbury High School. He was a member of 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

He joined the Army in September 2004 and was assigned to Fort Richardson in November 2005.

A memorial service will be held for Bolar at 2 p-m Saturday at Eastmont Baptist Church, 4504 Atlanta Highway. A visitation with the family will take place at 1 p-m.

Bolar will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, at 3 p-m on May 16th.
