Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley says the Alabama Port Authority soon will be able to enhance security at its rail facility with the installation of a closed-circuit television system.
The more than three-point-two (m) million dollar grant comes from the U-S Department of Homeland Security. Jim Walker, director of the state agency, said over the past four years Alabama has invested between seven and eight (m) million dollars to improve the port's security.
Riley said Alabama's port plays a major role in economic development and industrial recruitment.
In 2004, Alabama was the first state in the nation to create its own Cabinet-level Department of Homeland Security.
