Montgomery, AL – Spain Park High School teacher Pamela Harman was named Alabama Teacher of the Year.
State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton made the announcement Wednesday during a reception honoring 16 district finalists.
Harman, a former U-S Marine and Mississippi State graduate, has taught earth sciences at Spain Park since 2002.
Harman will spend the 2006-2007 school year serving as an ambassador for public education and the teaching profession. She automatically becomes the state's nominee for National Teacher of the Year.
Harman is the sixth teacher in the Hoover School System since 1996 to be named teacher of the year.
Christine Sealy of J-Larry Newton Elementary School near Fairhope in Baldwin County was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year, as well as the Alternate State teacher of the year. She has taught first grade for 11 years.
