Montgomery, AL – The attorney general issued an advisory opinion this week saying the state Board of Education has the legal authority to adopt the governor's proposed policy banning legislators from working for two-year colleges.
But Attorney General Troy King says his office does not offer advice on questions of constitutionality or whether the Justice Department would approve the proposed change since it affects elections in Alabama.
Governor Riley says he's pleased the attorney general concluded the board has the authority to adopt and enforce the proposed policy. The governor again urged the school board to take action.
