Century Old Bridge Gets New Home

By Associated Press

Gadsden, AL – A 100-year-old bridge, nicknamed "The Haunted Bridge," has found a new home at Noccalula Falls thanks to a joint effort between the city of Gadsden and the Etowah County Commission.

County Engineer Tim Graves said the wooden bridge, which will be used to carry pedestrians exploring Noccalula Falls Park, has steel trusses and is about 96 feet long. It will be used to span a gorge at Noccalula Falls that is about 80 feet wide and 40 feet deep.

The pedestrian bridge will serve as the first part of a biking/hiking trail that starts at the Noccalula Falls campground and run near the Etowah County Rescue Squad building. Plans are for the greenway, which would be for walking and biking, to eventually stretch to the James Martin Wildlife Park.
