Sessions Says He'll Scrutinize Immigration Plan

By Associated Press

Washington, DC – President Bush praised the work of Senators that hammered out an immigration deal announced Thursday.

The proposed legislation would quickly grant legal status to (m) millions of illegal immigrants already in the U-S. But, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions says he's not going to rubber stamp the plan.

He said the bill is about one-thousand pages, much like the failed version proposed last year and supporters want it voted on by the end of next week.

Sessions said that is not enough time to analyze its provisions and its implications. The Mobile Republican says Congress promised the immigration effort in 1986 would fix problem and it didn't.
