Tuscaloosa AL – A new 13-mile stretch of Corridor X, later to be called Interstate 22, will open this month. The new link is part of a roadway that will eventually connect Birmingham and Memphis. A 13-mile section runs from Walker County 81 to Cherry Avenue near the Birmingham city limits. With the exception of its junction at Interstate 65 in Birmingham, the entire roadway is expected to open by Thanksgiving. Corridor X will officially become I-22 once it fully connects with I-65.
