Montgomery, AL – A sentencing hearing is continuing in federal court in Montgomery for former Governor Don Siegelman and former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy.
The hearing resumed as attorneys for Scrushy began presenting objections they have to a sentencing report prepared by federal probation officers. Attorneys for Siegelman spent much of Tuesday presenting their objections to the report.
U-S District Judge Mark Fuller had said he would rule this morning on a sentencing range Siegelman could receive based on the sentencing report and attorney arguments. But Fuller said he will wait to rule on the guidelines for Siegelman until he has heard arguments from Scrushy's attorneys.
Almost a year ago, Siegelman and Scrushy were convicted of bribery and related crimes in a government corruption case. The sentencing hearing is expected to last much of the week.
Prosecutors have requested sentences of 30 years in prison for Siegelman and 25 years for Scrushy and that both men pay millions of dollars in fines.
Attorneys for the 61-year-old Siegelman and 54-year-old Scrushy have asked that they be given probation.
