Missile Defense Command Now Housed at Redstone

By Associated Press

Huntsville, AL – The Army Space and Missile Defense Command headquarters was officially transferred to Redstone Arsenal Tuesday.

The plan was mandated by the Base Realignment and Closure Commission in August 2005.

The move brings 180 positions to Huntsville and nearly three dozen employees are moving from Washington, D-C, leaving the remaining positions to be filled.

Also, two other units - the Army Material Command and the Army Security and Assistance Command based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, are being moved to Redstone.

The moves, scheduled to be completed by 2011, are expected to bring at least four-thousand-500 federal jobs to the Tennessee Valley, spawning thousands of private-sector jobs.
