Millport, AL – Steel Dust Recyling, a company that recycles steel mill dust, has announced plans to build a 35 (m) million dollar plant in Lamar County, in west Alabama.
The facility in Millport is expected to employ a staff of more than 40 when its completed early next year.
A company executive said the plant will be built on a 66 acre site, off Highway 96.
Steel mill dust is a byproduct of electric arc furnaces and the Millport facility will purchase the dust from steel-making plants in Alabama, Mississippi and other Southern states.
S-D-R said the recycling process called Waelz Kiln involves the recovering of zinc - the metal alloy would be sold to zinc smelters worldwide and cement manufacturers for use in road building.
Construction on the plant will begin immediately.
