Montgomery, AL – Alabama Public Safety Director Colonel Christopher Murphy says extra troopers will be on the highways during the Fourth holiday, focusing on speeders, drunk drivers and seatbelts use.
Officials estimate that seven people will die in traffic crashes during the state's 30-hour holiday period that begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday and ends at midnight Wednesday.
Clay Ingram, a spokesman for AAA in Alabama, expects higher traffic volume since the Fourth is in the middle of the week.
As a result, he said a lot of travelers will be spending this entire week on a holiday trip.
