Alabama Soldier Buried in Enterprise

By Associated Press

Enterprise, AL – Army Sergeant William Edward Brown, who died in a mortar blast in Iraq, was buried with full military honors Sunday in Enterprise.

Dozens of residents waving American flags stood in line for the funeral procession as it passed near Daleville and many soldiers from Fort Rucker were in attendance to honor Brown.

Brown, who was 25, was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. He had been in the Army since he graduated from Phil Campbell High School in 2002 and was on his second tour in Iraq.

He died June 23rd from wounds he sustained during an insurgent attack on his unit near Taji, Iraq.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel, who moved to Enterprise earlier this year to prepare for his homecoming, and two children, ages 6 and 2.
