Birmingham, AL – Regions Bank offices across Alabama and Florida will close at 2 p-m Thursday as the bank prepares to switch to AmSouth Bank's computer system as part of a 10 (b) billion dollar merger.
AmSouth branches will keep normal business hours Thursday and Friday.
More than 60 branches will also close in the two states as part of the conversion. The closings, conversion and the sign changes expected this weekend are the final steps of the merger in Alabama and Florida, Regions' two largest markets. Regions is the biggest bank in Alabama, with 30 percent of the market.
In Florida, it ranks fourth in terms of market share. The name of one of Alabama's oldest and biggest banks will disappear by the end of the weekend. AmSouth's roots date to 1872.
