Birmingham Skydiver Dies in Jump

By Associated Press

Prattville AL – A Birmingham skydiver fell to his death in Prattville when his parachute apparently malfunctioned during a jump.

The 37-year-old skydiver's name was not immediately released as police notified his relatives.

A group of skydivers took off from Grouby field on Saturday to take advantage of the great weather.

Prattville Police Chief Alfred Wadsworth said apparently the skydiver's parachute malfunctioned and he hit the ground. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The skydiver jumped from a plane carrying the group at about 14,000 feet. Skydivers noticed a twist in the cords from the main canopy parachute that ultimately proved fatal.
