Lacey Springs, AL – A spa that rubbed Lacey's Springs residents the wrong way has been closed after its owners were evicted from the property.
The owners of the building where Top Notch Spa once operated took back their office space Friday morning.
Two Morgan County Sheriff's deputies went along to make sure the owners gained entry and to explain the eviction if necessary, Chief Deputy Mike Corley said.
Property including tables built into the wall with 2-by-4s and covered with padding was moved to the curb, Corley said.
"After the proceedings were under way, the (evictees) did show up and begin to pick their property up," he said.
Joseph Williams Jr. and his wife Diane own the building but could not immediately be reached for comment. Williams told The Decatur Daily in a previous interview that he sought eviction because the renter, Angela Chambers, failed to pay the rent.
During a July 25 meeting at Bethlehem Baptist Church, the Williamses announced the eviction judgment they had received earlier that day against the spa. The announcement sparked loud applause from community members gathered to discuss ways of stopping alleged prostitution in the area.
It was not known if Top Notch would resume business in a new location.
Residents have also complained about Illusion Spa, which was destroyed by a suspicious fire in June. Owner Ann Mcelhaney of Huntsville recently replaced the burned trailer with a new doublewide mobile home.
In May armed robbers hauled naked Illusion Spa customers and attendants from private rooms during a holdup that netted about $1,700 in cash from wallets, purses and the safe.
