Montgomery, AL – Alabama's unemployment rose to 3.5 percent in November. That's up from the all-time low of 3.1 percent recorded in October. But it's well below the national figure of 4.7 percent.
The governor announced the unemployment rate Friday. He also said preliminary data indicates the state will end the year with 261 new and expanding industries being announced. Those industries are supposed to create 15,000 jobs when construction is complete.
The unemployment statistics for November showed Shelby County had the lowest jobless rate at 2.2 percent, followed by Madison and Limestone counties at 2.5 percent, and Geneva, Baldwin and Tuscaloosa counties at 2.6 percent.
The highest rates were 8.7 percent in Bullock County, 8.6 percent in Wilcox County, and 8.2 percent in Perry County.
