Guntersville, AL – The lodge at Lake Guntersville State Park will reopen January 2nd after being closed for almost four years and receiving $25 million in renovations.
The lodge, located on a wooded mountaintop, overlooks the park's 6,000 acres of woodlands. The facility has been closed since renovation work started in March 2004.
Park Superintendent Talmade Butler said the project has been delayed - mostly because of mold and mildew on the property. He said the project was initially estimated to cost about $22.5 million, but Butler said the final cost will be about $3 million more than the estimate.
The lodge includes 110 rooms, which rent for $98 to $100 a night.
A marketing director said groups are already signing up to stay at the renovated facility.
