Montgomery – Alabama's unemployment rose to 4 percent in December. That's up from 3.5 percent in November. But below the national jobless figure of 5 percent.
Tom Surtees, director of the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations announced the unemployment rate today. He said the rate represents 89,792 unemployed Alabamians.
The unemployment statistics for December showed Shelby County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6 percent, followed by Madison County with 2.8 percent and Geneva at 3 percent.
The highest jobless rates were 9.6 percent in Wilcox County, 8.8 percent in Bullock County, and 8 percent in Perry County.
