Marion – Civil rights icon Rosa Parks will be inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame on March 6.
The hall of fame's board selected Parks as the lone inductee for this year. Women must be deceased for two years before being considered for induction.
Hall of fame director Valerie Pope Burnes says Parks was a woman of silent dignity and grace whose life changed the world.
Parks was arrested in 1955 for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery city bus to a white man. Her arrest prompted blacks to boycott Montgomery's bus system. It also led to a Supreme Court decision ending segregation in public transportation.
The Alabama Women's Hall of Fame is located at Judson College in Marion.
