Wiley Fire Chief Loses Home To Fire

By Associated Press

Wiley AL – Wiley Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tommy Collins suffered injuries Tuesday afternoon while trying to save his home from a fire.

Ameila Willcutt, assistant chief of the Wiley Fire Department, said Collins received a first-degree burn on one of his hands and may have suffered smoke inhalation.

The fire chief was at home with his wife, his daughter and two grandchildren when the blaze broke out around 1:30. Willcutt said Collins' wife and daughter may also have suffered smoke inhalation, but the children were unharmed.

Willcutt said the house was destroyed in less than an hour. She said the family didn't have insurance on the house and lost everything.

How the fire started remains under investigation.

Anyone interested in helping Collins and his family can send donations to 11175 Willcutt Road, Berry, AL 35546, or call Ameila Willcutt at 205-361-5036.
