IRS says Record Number of Alabamiams Used Free File Program

Birmingham, AL – The Internal Revenue Service said a record number of Alabama taxpayers used the agency's Free File program. The IRS said there was a 35 percent increase in the number of taxpayers using the no-cost online program. There were also 21 percent more Alabama tax returns e-filed from their own computers.

Electronic returns appear to catching on in a big way. So far, the IRS said Alabamians have e-filed more than 1.4 million returns through a tax preparer or their own computer. That's an almost 12 percent increase from last year. Nationally, the IRS recorded an 11.8 percent overall increase in e-filing.
