Chris Hunter served in the British military in Iraq in 2004, performing arguably one of the most dangerous jobs out there. He was a bomb-disposal operator — responsible for taking apart explosive devices. Clothed in 85 pounds of protective gear weighing, he would venture out in the 100-plus degree heat to try and defuse the IED's before they exploded.
Madeleine Brand talks with Hunter about his experiences and why, though he left the military 18 months ago, he plans to go to Afghanistan in a couple of months.
"I don't feel entirely settled in this beautiful lifestyle we've got," he says. "I've probably got to go and just get it out of my system."
After a couple months, he says he'll be ready to "settle down." He also admits he's said that before.
