Monday is Jefferson Davis Day

By Associated Press

Montgomery AL – Today (Monday 6/2) is an official state holiday in Alabama for the birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

Tuesday will be the 200th anniversary of Davis' birth, but state law sets the holiday on the first Monday in June.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans are planning a ceremony at noon on the Capitol grounds in Montgomery to recognize Davis. State Commander Leonard Wilson says more activities honoring Davis are planned for June 14.
