By Associated Press

Pittsburgh, PA – Three Alabamians who saved a teenager from drowning in Hawaii are among 26 people awarded Carnegie medals for their heroic acts.

The three were among 26 people honored Wednesday by the Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Hero Fund Commission for their courage and bravery.

34-year-old Jeffrey W. Sellers of Hazel Green, 41-year-old Patrick S. Payne of Grant, and 43-year-old Dwayne D. Trotti of Killen saved 14-year-old Rick C. Abille from drowning in Hanalei, Hawaii, on Dec. 17, 2006. Trotti died trying to save the teenager.

The 26 recipients, or their survivors, will receive $6,000 in addition to the medal.
