Arthur Execution Clears Another Hurdle

By Associated Press

Mobile AL – The Alabama Supreme Court has refused to block Thomas Arthur's execution for a 1982 murder.

The court voted 6-2 Tuesday in denying his bid for a stay. He is scheduled to die by lethal injection Thursday at Holman Prison near Atmore.

The 66-year-old Arthur sought a delay to allow time for DNA testing of evidence from his trial in the murder of Troy Wicker Jr. of Muscle Shoals.

Last week, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals also refused to delay the execution for DNA testing.
