Ala. AFL-CIO Gives Political Endorsements

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama AFL-CIO has endorsed Democrats Barack Obama for president, Vivian Davis Figures for the U.S. Senate, and Lucy Baxley for president of the Public Service Commission.

Union President Stewart Burkhalter announced the endorsements Friday after the group wrapped up a meeting in Montgomery.

The Alabama AFL-CIO also endorsed Democrats Deborah Bell Paseur for justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and Clyde Jones and Aimee Cobb Smith for the Court of Criminal Appeals.

In congressional races, the group endorsed Democrats Josh Segall for the 3rd District, Nicholas Sparks for the 4th District, Parker Griffith for the 5th District and incumbent Artur Davis for the 7th District. Burkhalter says the group is still discussing the 2nd District.

There were no endorsements in the 1st and 6th districts.
