Two-Year College System Can't Change Employment Status

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – A Montgomery circuit court judge has barred the two-year college system from changing the classification of 140 employees in a way that would remove their tenure benefits.

Post-secondary officials had sought to move the employees from a Skills Training Consortium on Wednesday, the start of the state's new fiscal year, and put them under the two-year system instead. The change would remove the employees from protections under the Fair Dismissal Act and alter their insurance benefits.

Circuit Judge Truman Hobbs Jr. filed the order Tuesday barring the system from moving the employees or attempting to make them waive their Fair Dismissal rights.
