RSA Offers $6.75M For Mobile's AmSouth Building

Mobile, AL – David Bronner sets his sights high when it comes to downtown Mobile.

The Retirement Systems of Alabama already has built the port city's tallest building, the 35-story Battle House Tower. Now the RSA chief wants to buy the 34-story AmSouth bank building for $6.75 million.

Bronner said the building's office space would be refurbished if the purchase goes through. Papers concerning the offer were filed Monday.

Investor Alan Shuman of Reading, Pa., backed out of his $7.2 million offer because he couldn't find a lender. The owners, New York-based Mobile Tower Limited Partnership, accepted Bronner's bid less than two weeks later.

Mobile Tower filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May to avoid a foreclosure sale. The owner's attorneys filed an application Friday asking for a Feb. 10 hearing to approve the sale, which could close in February.
