Republicans Make Economy Top Priority For Session

Montgomery, AL – Republicans in the Alabama House say their priority for the current session is to pass a package of economic accountability bills that will create jobs and make the budgeting process more accountable.

Most of the bills endorsed by the House Republicans are included in a package of economic and ethics bills being pushed by GOP Gov. Bob Riley.

House Minority Leader Rep. Mike Hubbard of Auburn says the bills are intended to make sure Alabama's economy remains ``relatively healthy'' when the nation's economy is hurting.

The bills included a measure to offer tax credit incentives to business that create jobs and another that would revamp the way the Legislature prepares budgets. The Republican lawmakers also endorsed Riley's proposal to rewrite the state ethics law.
