Special Election Set May 26th For Ala. House 6 Seat

Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley has scheduled special elections to fill the Alabama House District 6 seat that became vacant when former Rep. Sue Schmitz of Toney was convicted.

Riley announced Friday that candidates will have until April 2 to qualify with political parties. The primary will be May 26. If a runoff is needed, it will be July 14 and the general election Sept. 1. If no runoff is needed, the general election will be July 14.

Schmitz was convicted of seven felony fraud charges last month. Her seat is one of two in the Legislature that are vacant because of criminal convictions.
