Alabama's Tax Collections Down 3.6 Percent From Last Year

Montgomery, AL – The tax collections for Alabama's government through the first half of the fiscal year are down 3.6 percent from the same period a year ago.

The Alabama Revenue Department reports collecting $4.2 billion from October through March. That's down from $4.4 billion during the same six-month period a year ago.

State Revenue Commissioner Tim Russell says tax collections are holding up well considering the national recession.

Alabama's corporate income tax collections are down 22 percent and individual income tax collections are down 3 percent. Sales tax collections have fallen nearly 9 percent. Income and sales taxes are Alabama's two biggest taxes.
