Montgomery, AL – A coalition of groups that promote Alabama's inland waterways has named state Rep. John Knight its ``Legislator of the Year.''
Knight was presented the award Monday morning in a ceremony on the banks of the Alabama River in downtown Montgomery. Knight is chairman of the House committee that prepares the state's General Fund budget.
The president of the Coosa-Alabama River Association, Jerry Sailors, said Knight has consistently worked to fund projects to improve Alabama's 1400 miles of navigable inland waterways.
Knight said the state's waterways are important to efforts to recruit new industry to Alabama.
