Birmingham, AL – The former head of the HealthSouth rehabilitation chain is headed back to court for more testimony about the fraud that nearly brought down the Birmingham-based company.
A judge said Richard Scrushy would resume testifying Thursday morning in a lawsuit filed against him by shareholders. They're seeking $2.6 billion from the former chief executive, whom they blame for the accounting scheme.
Scrushy testified for the first time about the fraud on Wednesday, denying any role in the conspiracy. He said he didn't know about the scheme until after investigators raided the HealthSouth headquarters in March 2003.
Attorneys for shareholders will get a chance to cross examine Scrushy about his claims.
Scrushy is currently serving time for an unrelated conviction in a state corruption case.
