Scrushy Testimony Nearing End In HealthSouth Suit

Birmingham, AL – Fired HealthSouth chief executive Richard Scrushy is wrapping up his testimony in Birmingham in a civil lawsuit over a huge fraud at the rehabilitation chain.

Scrushy was back at the courthouse Friday for a third day on the witness stand. He is being cross-examined by attorneys who are seeking $2.6 billion from Scrushy in a shareholder lawsuit filed on behalf of the company.

Numerous former HealthSouth executives have testified that Scrushy was in on a scheme to overstate assets and revenues at the company. But Scrushy said he had nothing to do with the plot.

Once done with his testimony, Scrushy will be sent back to a federal prison in Texas where he's serving nearly seven years for his federal conviction in a state bribery case.
